French Open LIVE: Fonseca stuns Djokovic & Ruud pulls off comeback on dramatic day
<p><strong>01:05 CET</strong> - Alexander Zverev defeats Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 to advance to the fourth round at Roland Garros for the ninth-straight year. </p><p>The German native is determined to win his first-ever Grand Slam as he'll be facing Jesper De Jon in the next.</p><p><strong>23:19 CET </strong>- Casper Ruud has emulated Fonseca, with the Norwegian player always overturning a two-set deficit to move into the last 16 with a 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-5 win over Tommy Paul.</p><p>That will be a tough one to take for Paul, who not only led by two sets but also faced just three break points while having 14 on Ruud's serve, hit more winners, hit fewer unforced errors, and won more points.</p><p>Ultimately, tennis is all about how you play the biggest of those points, though, and Ruud stepped up in those moments to keep his hopes of winning his first Grand Slam.</p><p>Next up for him is Fonseca.</p><p><strong>22:11 CET - </strong>In the final women's match of the day, 11th seed Belinda Bencic has beaten Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-3 to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros for the first time in her career.</p><p>The drama has continued on the men's side, with two-time finalist Casper Ruud fighting back from two sets down to take his clash with Tommy Paul into a decider.</p><p>That's the fourth five-set battle of the day, with world number 106 Jesper de Jong this evening beating 13th seed Karen Khachanov 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 in yet another upset.</p><p>Some day this has been!</p><p><strong>21:02 CET - </strong>At the start of the day, Joao Fonseca was someone that most people thought could compete for Grand Slam titles in the future; he ends it as someone that everyone is certain will, and as soon as this month.</p><p>He found himself two sets down against the greatest player of all time, and produced some of the best tennis you'll see to turn things around. He did so not only with his stunning shotmaking, but also with his incredible nerve - so many younger players have lost their cool when facing Djokovic over the years, but when he ended up 40-30 down in the deciding game, he served things out with three aces.</p><p>Make no mistake: Djokovic didn't lose this match; Fonseca won it</p><p>What. Night.</p><p><strong>20:51 CET - JOAO FONSECA KNOCKS NOVAK DJOKOVIC OUT OF THE FRENCH OPEN!</strong></p><p>The 19-year-old has produced an absolutely sensational comeback to beat the 24-time Grand Slam winner 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5!</p><p><strong>20:18 CET - </strong>Djokovic has wrestled back the momentum and drawn first blood in the decider, breaking to love and taking a 3-1 lead.</p><p>Elsewhere, Jakub Mensik has recovered from a poor opening set to beat world number seven Alex De Minaur 0-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 and match his best ever performance at a Grand Slam.</p><p><strong>19:57 CET - </strong>We're heading to the fifth set in what has turned into an absolute classic on Philippe-Chatrier! </p><p>Things were going smoothly for Novak Djokovic as he claimed the first two sets of his clash with young talent Joao Fonseca without too much trouble, but the Brazilian has since shown why many expect Grand Slam titles to be in his future.</p><p>Djokovic's own level hasn't dropped a huge amount, but the Brazilian has produced some absolutely sensational shotmaking to level things up at 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.</p><p>Into a decider we go! <strong>Follow every point of it here.</strong></p><p><strong>18:08 CET - </strong>Elina Svitolina has marched on with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Tamara Korpatsch that takes her winning run to nine matches and maintains her status as one of the favourites in Paris.</p><p>The 31-year-old broke her opponent's serve six times and hit 28 winners across the two sets.</p><p><strong>17:30 CET - </strong>Rafael Jodar has moved into the fourth round in just the second Grand Slam appearance of his career!</p><p>The Spaniard has done so by overcoming a huge test against American talent Alex Michelsen, with the 19-year-old prevailing 7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in well over four hours.</p><p>Remarkably, given he'd barely played on the ATP Tour before this year, it feels like he's very much in with a chance of winning this tournament.
